Some extraordinary guitar picking from Nick on this epic song about commitment (and the lack of it). If this is actually about heroin, I just can’t see it. In 1970 the track was included on the Island Records sampler Bumpers.

The album’s second instrumental. There are those who think this sounds like elevator muzak, which is unfair; there are also those who think it sounds like a TV theme, which is a little closer to the truth. Dobson’s vaguely jazzy flute weaves in and out of the soaring strings, on a tune that gets right inside your head and takes up permanent residence (flutes were big at the time, employed by Traffic, Jethro Tull, Quintessence and several other bands).
